Wordpress and me

As a web developer I started off learning HTML and CSS, which is my preferred type of website, but it does have its drawbacks as the client will need a developer to update it (unless it has been built with another type of CMS). Many businesses are happy to have an external or inhouse web developer to call to make changes to their website but Just recently people have requested websites to be built in wordpress so they can update it themselves. Now this all may seem great but a lot of people have forgotten that they will need to learn "how" to edit their site and , "take responsibility" of their own site/blog. What I mean is, taking a backup if it goes wrong! knowing how to edit and publish blogs and pages, seo, use and search for plugins, using the media library? is this somehting you want to be bothered with?

I have been explaing wordpress CMS to a few people, but, they didn't realise how complex it was. When using Wordpress they have understood all the basic training and generally really happy, however, there have been a reluctance few who were not listening to the training, wanting it to be easy (too easy in fact) and not wanting to be hassled with backing it up, editing, publishing, adding to menus, seo, categories, tags etc. Now bear in mind these are people who have approached me and asked me to show them how.. ?? confused, I am.. so what I would say is, if you want a website with any type of CMS, be realistic with the amount of time and patience you have to dedicate to the site and to learn - how much do you want to know? if the answer to this question is "not much" then my own advice would be to ask a developer to do it for you, after all, that is what we are here for. I love building websites and seeing my clients faces when they can confidently share their site with others, knowing it works, looks great and its safely backed up and in the hands of a web developer.

For those who would like to take a tutorial on wordpress please follow the link below to my videos where I will show you how to get started.
